Orientation at Michigan Tech is a time to learn about academics and campus resources, meet other students, and get settled before classes begin. Orientation will begin on Sunday, August 23, and continue through Friday, August 28. Participation in Orientation is required for all new students who are living on or off campus. A detailed Orientation information booklet will be mailed to you in June. To view a tentative schedule of Orientation week events or for more information, visit www.orientation.mtu.edu.
During Orientation, you will have the opportunity to interact closely with students and your Orientation Team Leader (OTL), who is a current Tech student. You will also have time to buy your books, get your Tech Express ID card, discover what professors expect from students, talk to your academic advisor, complete your fall course schedule during registration, enjoy a workout at the Student Development Complex, get comfortable in your new home, and much more.
“Orientation is amazing! It’s a great opportunity for you to learn more
about your major, explore campus, make long-lasting friends, and have
tons of fun! You can learn more about the area and all of the Husky
traditions and activities that happen on campus. Orientation will open
your eyes to all that Michigan Tech has to offer in and out of the
classroom. Get ready to have fun and learn a lot!”
– Jess Turuc, former Orientation Executive Staff, Senior,
communication and culture studies
Athlete Orientation
If you are a student athlete who plays a fall sport, you
will attend Athlete Orientation. This one-day session will
allow you to familiarize yourself with Michigan Tech and
still have time for practice. Athletes in all other sports will
attend the weeklong Orientation that begins on August 23.
If you need information about which Orientation to
attend, please contact your coach.
Parent and Family Orientation
As your student prepares for college life, we recognize
that parents and family members also go through a
transition. To assist family members in this process, we
offer a Parent and Family Orientation program on Sunday,
August 23. We want to make sure all of your questions have
been answered. In addition, a Sibling Orientation is offered
on Sunday for siblings of Tech students in grades 6–12.

Parents and family members are invited
to the Family Picnic on Sunday, August 23.
Details about purchasing tickets will be
included in the Orientation booklet you
will receive in June, or you can click
here.
Keweenaw Nature Orientation Week
(KNOW)
Join the Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) and get in
the KNOW! The OAP will offer three weeklong outdoor
experiences in the Upper Peninsula. Trips are planned
for June 16–20, July 13–17, and August 17–22, 2009. Take
advantage of all the Upper Peninsula has to offer and get
a sneak peek at some of the best scenery in Michigan,
all while getting to know your future classmates. Trip
registration will open in April. Visit the Orientation website for more information.
