Q: May I ship some of my belongings to my residence hall
room before I arrive?
A: Yes. About a week before your expected arrival, pack
your belongings securely and address them as instructed
in the address section on this page.
Q: My roommate canceled his/her enrollment at Tech. What
will happen now?
A: If your roommate cancels, we will assign a new
roommate and send you his/her contact information.
Q: Can I have a guest stay in my room?
A: Yes. Register your guest at the reception desk, and they
can stay with you in your room for up to four days. Ask
your resident assistant (RA) for details.
Q: Do I need renter’s insurance?
A: The University does not assume responsibility for
or carry insurance covering the personal property
of students. Students are advised to check the
coverage provided by existing family policies or make
arrangements to purchase their own policies.
Q: Can I store my things in the residence halls?
A: Storage areas are available for you to use in the hall
living areas; however, space is very limited. Anything
kept in storage must be marked with your name, room
number, and the date. Stored items that are not properly
marked may be removed and discarded. Michigan Tech
does not assume responsibility for items left in storage.
