Dining Services offers a variety of popular entrees at each meal. To complement the menu, each dining hall provides a salad bar, deli bar, pasta bar, stir-fry station, vegetarian entrée, dessert station, waffle makers, pizza station, beverage station, and soft-serve ice cream station. Unlimited seconds are offered to all who would like an extra helping.
You may use your meal plan in any of the residence dining halls. Meal hours are posted throughout the halls. Dining Services provides continuous dining from the beginning of breakfast to the end of the dinner meal. In the case of a class, lab, or work schedule conflict, arrangements can be made for a sack lunch for the meal you miss. This sack lunch request must be made at your Dining Services Office at least twenty-four hours in advance.
Dining Services makes every effort to make you feel at home. Monthly theme meals are planned, and you are treated to a meal that includes special entrée selections, decorations, and, in some cases, entertainment. Special buffets are served several times throughout the school year.
Your Board Dollar
Residential Dining Services serves continuously Monday
through Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Saturday
and Sunday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. Meal swipes are
stored on your Tech Express ID card and can be used as
many times as you would like each day, week, month, or
semester during regular hours of operation. Meal plans can
be changed during the first two weeks of the fall semester
(for the fall semester) and the last two weeks of the fall
semester and the first two weeks of the spring semester
(for the spring semester).
Meal Plans
Our meal plans provide unlimited access to all three
residence hall dining rooms. There is no limit to the
number of times you may enter a dining room to eat a
complete meal, stop in for a snack, pop in for a pop (or is
it soda?), or catch a late lunch during our regular hours of
operation. Students may choose from one of three meal
plans.
| Meal Plan | Silver | Gold | Platinum |
| Access | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Guest Meal Passes | 4/Semester | 8/Semester | 16/Semester |
| Dining Dollars | None | $120/Semester | $240/Semester |
We recommend first-year students “go for the gold” meal plan, as it offers great value and flexibility.
Dining Dollars
Dining Dollars add flexibility to your board plan. A
component of the Gold and Platinum meal plans, they
allow you to eat at convenient times and places. Dining
Dollars are accepted in the following locations: the Campus
Café (in Wadsworth Hall), the Aftermath Café (in Fisher
Hall), the Memorial Union Food Court, the Husky Den (at
Mont Ripley Ski Chalet), and vending machines throughout
campus. Unused Dining Dollars are transferable from fall to
spring semester; however, any Dining Dollars not used by
the end of spring semester are nonrefundable.
You or your parent(s) and guardian(s) can add money to your Dining Dollars account at the Tech Express office in the Campus Bookstore or online at www.dining.mtu.edu/dining_dollars.html. These additional Dining Dollars can be refunded at the contributor’s request at the end of the academic year. A $5.00 fee is assessed on any refund.
Commuter Student Meal Plans
Two meal plans are available for commuter students—
one if you would like to eat in the residence hall dining
centers, and another if you prefer eating in the retail dining
operations like the Campus Café or MUB Food Mall.
The Top Dog Express Meal Plan can be purchased in blocks of ten, twenty-five, fifty, or seventy-five meals. The more meals you purchase, the less you pay per meal. This plan can be used in any residence dining hall (DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth Hall) and features the all-you-can-eat, buffet-style dining.
The Big Dog Express Meal Plan is designed for those who dine frequently in Tech’s retail dining outlets—the MUB Food Mall, Corner Store, Aftermath Café, Campus Café, and selected vending machines throughout campus. This account is like a debit-card system, and, depending on how much money you deposit, we’ll add a percentage. If you deposit $25–$99, we add 3 percent; if you deposit $100–199.99, we add 4 percent; and if you deposit $200 or more, we add 5 percent.
Both meal plans can be purchased at the Tech Express Service Center in the Campus Bookstore, located in the Memorial Union Building. For more information on off-campus meal plans, please visit www.dining.mtu.edu/sub/big_dog_top_dog.html.
