Where are you from?
Kasson, MN

Undergraduate Major?
I majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology as an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned my M.A. in Leadership in Student Affairs at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN.

Why do you enjoy being a part of the Orientation program?
I enjoy working with new students and their families, and I love the energy associated with orientation. Transitioning to a new environment on a college campus can be both exciting and a little scary. I am here because I want to support students as they begin their transition and welcome them to Michigan Tech's campus community.

What is your favorite thing to do at Michigan Tech?
Welcome all the new students to campus in August! For the rest of the year, I enjoy snowshoeing and hiking on the Tech Trails and taking in all the beautiful sites of the UP.

What has been your favorite class that you have ever taken?
My favorite and most memorable course was an intensive, week-long Urban Justice Tour for which the entire class traveled by train to Chicago, IL. There, we visited a women's prison, diverse neighborhoods, and various social service agencies. I enjoyed the course because it got me out of the classroom and interacting with people I may never have otherwise met.

Any advice for new students?
Take advantage of the resources available to you and get involved; Michigan Tech offers resources for academic and personal success and has over 200 student organizations! Your college career starts with Orientation so jump in and have fun!

What is the last concert you attended?
I saw Neil Diamond in July 2008 and it was a great concert with a unique crowd – fathers and daughters; grandmothers, daughters, and granddaughters; etc. all enjoying the show together.

What’s your favorite type of music?
While I can enjoy just about any type of music, my long-standing favorite is country music!
