Co-op/Internships - [top]

You can gain practical experience before graduation with the Michigan Tech Cooperative Education Program. The Co-op program is a joint venture between Michigan Tech, a selected employer, and you. Work assignments are related to your major field of study and are varied to provide a broad range of experience and training. Co-op students must complete the same academic program as non-participants, so you could defer graduation by as much as a full calendar year.

Internships are similar to co-ops except that the work is not necessarily applicable to the field in which you will receive your degree. Typically students intern over the summer.

Students have a considerable amount of latitude in designing and carrying out their own projects based on their interests, abilities, and skills. There are also opportunities to get your research funded, and often, undergraduate research can count for class credit. If you are interested, talk to a member of the faculty in the department in which you are interested.
